Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s tableau will participate in the Republic Day parade 2026 in New Delhi, with the Centre approving the state government’s proposal for the prestigious national event.
According to reports, the Union Ministry of Defence has accepted proposals from 17 states and Union Territories, including Odisha, for participation in the Republic Day parade to be held at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2026. The selected states have been asked to complete the preparation of their tableaux by January 19.
The Odisha government is expected to showcase the state’s rich culture and traditions through its tableau during the parade. The Centre has communicated the approval to the Chief Secretaries of the selected states, directing them to ensure timely completion of the tableaux.
It may be recalled that Odisha’s proposal to send a tableau for the Republic Day parade 2025 was rejected by the Centre. The state had then proposed to highlight the textiles of Kandhamal and Maniabandha sarees, but the selection committee did not approve the theme.
However, the Union government later allowed Odisha to display its tableau at Bharat Parva 2025 in New Delhi, providing an alternative platform to showcase the state’s cultural heritage.
