Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has said that the state government sanctioned water infrastructure projects worth ₹54,000 crore over the last two years to strengthen irrigation and water security.
Speaking at a Union Ministry of Jal Shakti summit in New Delhi, Majhi said irrigation facilities had been provided to 3.20 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
He highlighted the completion of 770 new check dams, nine in-stream storage structures and the renovation of 1,312 old check dams. The state has also expanded community lift irrigation, deep borewells and solar-powered borewells.
Majhi said more than 20,000 rooftop rainwater harvesting structures and 1,200 recharge wells were completed to improve groundwater sustainability.
He also highlighted the progress of the long-delayed Kanupur Project, which is expected to provide irrigation to 25,000 hectares after the completion of its dam and canal network.
The Chief Minister said water security and irrigation development remain key priorities for Odisha’s agriculture-based economy.
