Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s flood situation showed improvement on Saturday as water levels in several major rivers began falling. However, the State Government continued relief and rescue operations across six affected districts.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, floods have affected nearly 2.7 lakh people across 52 blocks, 227 gram panchayats and 503 villages. So far, 95,206 people have been evacuated and shifted to 226 relief shelters.
The shelters are providing cooked food, drinking water, sanitation, electricity and medical assistance. Special arrangements have been made for vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women and senior citizens.
The government has deployed 118 response teams, including ODRAF, NDRF, Fire Services, Police and other local teams. Sixty-two medical teams are also providing healthcare, while veterinary teams are attending to livestock.
Several rivers, including the Baitarani, Burhabalanga and Subarnarekha, are showing falling trends. The Jalaka, however, remains slightly above its danger level despite receding.
Authorities have urged district administrations to remain alert and continue monitoring river levels and weather conditions. The State Government said relief materials and emergency resources are available for immediate deployment if required.
