Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to see heavy rain and thunderstorms from August 9 to 15. Several districts have received weather warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The forecast comes after the formation of a low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha.

Orange Warning for Four Districts

On August 9, an Orange warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at one or two places in these districts.

A Yellow warning has also been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Balangir.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected at isolated places in many parts of the state.

Rain to Continue on August 10-12

On August 10, a Yellow warning for heavy rain remains in place for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely in several districts. These include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.

Similar conditions are expected on August 11 and 12. The four western districts will remain under a Yellow warning for heavy rainfall.

Weather Alert for August 13-15

On August 13, the Yellow warning for heavy rain will cover Sundargarh and Keonjhar.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may occur in several districts.

For August 14 and 15, a Yellow warning has been issued for heavy rain at one or two places in Sundargarh and Keonjhar.

People in the affected districts have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorms.
