The spiritual bond between India and Japan received a remarkable boost through an inspiring act of devotion that brought the sacred tradition of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra to Kasugai, near Nagoya, Japan. The initiative, led by Gaurav Ralhan, CEO of Health on Top, reflects how faith can unite people beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.
During a visit to Kasugai in 2024 as a distinguished guest for the local Rath Yatra celebrations, Ralhan was deeply touched by the devotion displayed by both the Indian diaspora and Japanese devotees. Inspired by the spiritual atmosphere, he resolved to donate a traditional chariot of Lord Jagannath, handcrafted in Puri—the birthplace of the world-famous Rath Yatra.
With the support of renowned artisan Sri Chandramani Maharana and his team, the chariot was built in a remarkably short time while preserving the traditional craftsmanship associated with Puri. Transporting the sacred structure to Japan required extensive coordination, with significant contributions from Navish Singhal, who managed the packing and shipping process, Chisato, a Japanese Odissi dancer who helped overcome language barriers, and Kazati-san, who coordinated local arrangements in Nagoya.
Ralhan describes the entire journey as a divine blessing, believing every challenge was overcome through the grace of Lord Jagannath. The successful arrival of the chariot has strengthened the spiritual connection between devotees in India and Japan.
Encouraged by the growing enthusiasm, the Kasugai community now hopes to establish a dedicated Jagannath Temple, enabling the Rath Yatra to be celebrated every year with traditional rituals and greater community participation.
The initiative stands as a powerful example of cultural diplomacy through spirituality, demonstrating that devotion has the ability to transcend language, nationality and borders while bringing communities together under a shared sense of faith and harmony.
