Heavy rainfall brought normal life to a halt across Delhi-NCR on Friday, causing severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and multiple emergency incidents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said moderate to heavy rain would continue through Friday before easing from Saturday, although more intense showers were expected during the evening.
Major Roads Waterlogged
Several key roads across Delhi were submerged after hours of continuous rain. MB Road in South Delhi was among the worst affected, with water levels reaching three to four feet near the Air Force Station. Traffic slowed to a crawl as vehicles struggled through flooded stretches.
Waterlogging was also reported at Okhla Mor, Khanpur, Deoli, Sangam Vihar, Ambedkar Nagar, ITO, Patel Road, Wazirabad Road, Rohtak Road, Shaheen Bagh, Peeragarhi, and near Badarpur Border Metro Station. Many motorcycles and auto-rickshaws broke down, leaving commuters stranded in long queues.
Emergency Incidents Reported
The Delhi Fire Service handled several rain-related emergencies during the day. Officials responded to nine house collapse incidents and 16 cases of fallen trees. No injuries were reported.
In one incident, three women were safely rescued after a tree fell on their house.
Rainfall and Weather Forecast
According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded 59.2 mm of rainfall by Friday morning, while Lodhi Road received 60.4 mm. Other areas, including Ridge, Ayanagar, and Palam, also recorded significant rainfall.
The weather department expects rainfall intensity to reduce from Saturday, with light showers likely over the weekend.
Noida and Gurugram Also Affected
Heavy rain disrupted traffic in Noida, where waterlogged roads caused long vehicle queues. An ambulance remained stranded for over 30 minutes near the Mahamaya Flyover due to flooding.
In Gurugram, rainwater entered the Civil Hospital, flooding the basement and parts of the ground floor. Hospital authorities suspended basement services as restoration work continued.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel as more rain is expected through Friday night.
