Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday challenged the Opposition to hold a detailed discussion in Parliament on the ongoing students’ protest.
Speaking to reporters, Shah said he was ready to answer all questions about the action taken by security personnel against protesting students at Jantar Mantar.
He asked the Opposition to approach Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 2 pm so that a discussion could begin at 3 pm. Shah said he would personally respond to the issues raised during the debate.
Shah argued that a serious matter like the students’ protest should be discussed properly in Parliament. He said it should not be limited to a simple statement.
He also said the government was willing to suspend Question Hour, subject to the Speaker’s approval, to provide more time for the discussion.
Shah rejected Opposition claims that he had been absent from Parliament. He said he had been attending Parliament regularly since the session began and had been present in his chamber.
The Home Minister also accused the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings. He said the government had already agreed to its demand for a discussion on the NEET students’ protest.
Shah said the Opposition now had to decide whether it wanted a debate or continued disruption.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi responded that the INDIA Bloc was not interested in listening to Shah’s lectures or his claims.
