The Gurugram Police have registered a case against stand-up comedian Pranit More and social media user Himanshu Jangra following a viral video linked to the controversial “₹370 biryani” remark.
Acting on a complaint from the National Commission for Women and taking suo motu cognizance, police booked the duo under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The charges include publishing obscene material electronically, exhibiting obscene content, sexual harassment, sexually coloured remarks, and statements alleged to cause public mischief.
According to police, notices will be issued to both individuals to join the investigation. Authorities have also requested social media platforms to remove the video, stating that it affects the dignity and honour of women.
Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi condemned derogatory remarks against women in comedy shows and called for strict action.
Meanwhile, Himanshu Jangra claimed parts of his on-stage story were improvised for entertainment. Pranit More issued a second apology, admitting he should have stopped the remarks and describing his response as a “lapse in judgment.”
