Congress is preparing for a major edition of Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatron Ki Goonj programme in Indore, with the party claiming around 1.20 lakh students have registered for the event.
Congress leaders are also working to bring nearly 25,000 students from coaching centres in Indore and nearby areas. State Congress president Jitu Patwari has been visiting colleges across Madhya Pradesh ahead of the programme.
The event is expected to include both male and female students, unlike the Pune gathering, which primarily involved women students. Congress leaders also expect significant participation from tribal students, with nearly 24,000 students reportedly expected from areas including the Jhabua belt.
The Indore programme comes as Gandhi’s student outreach has taken on a sharper political tone. While the initiative initially focused on non-political interaction with students, his recent events have included criticism of the BJP, RSS and the Union government.
Indore’s political significance adds another dimension to the programme. The city is considered an important centre of the Sangh Parivar’s organisational presence.
The Congress is using the initiative to strengthen its engagement with students and young voters, while expanding its outreach to tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh.
