Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Saturday reviewed the flood situation in Malkangiri district and assessed the administration’s preparedness to handle the situation.
Pujari spoke with the Malkangiri Collector to take an update on the situation and ongoing relief measures. Water is flowing over four roads in the district, forcing authorities to stop vehicular movement on the affected stretches as a precaution.
Food and drinking water arrangements have been made for drivers stranded due to the road disruptions. Health teams have also been kept ready to respond to any emergency, the Collector informed the minister.
Pujari said the Revenue Department had sanctioned funds last year to raise the height of the four roads that regularly face waterlogging during the monsoon. He said efforts would be made to prevent such disruptions in the coming monsoon seasons.
Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Dilip Rout said Malkangiri was among the worst-affected areas due to the second low-pressure system. Several parts of the district recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Malkangiri and Chitrakonda received 192 mm of rainfall each, while Dabugam recorded 135 mm. The area around Balimela Dam received the highest rainfall of 219 mm, Rout said.
