A deadly explosion in the southern Iranian town of Kuhestak has left at least five people dead, including a child, and more than 60 others injured after a reported US strike hit near a wedding gathering.
Residents described scenes of chaos as explosions tore through the area shortly before the ceremony was set to begin. Children were among the injured, while survivors and residents rushed through the rubble to search for victims.
Eyewitnesses said shoes and personal belongings were scattered across the blast site, with several buildings severely damaged. The gathering was reportedly located close to a telecommunications tower that was among the targets of the wider military operation.
An independent analysis of images and videos from the site reportedly suggested that the wedding area may have been directly struck by a US munition. However, Washington has not officially accepted responsibility for the incident.
US Vice President JD Vance said authorities were examining reports of civilian casualties and investigating whether an American strike had hit the wedding gathering.
The incident has intensified concerns over civilian deaths as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
