Heavy rain and thunderstorms battered Delhi-NCR on Friday, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Nine flights were diverted between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm due to adverse weather conditions. Four flights were diverted to Jaipur, four to Lucknow and one to Ahmedabad.
Water accumulated in the approach roads and forecourt areas of Delhi Airport, though authorities said the affected areas were cleared shortly afterwards.
Several residential areas in West Delhi also witnessed severe waterlogging following the intense downpour. Palam recorded the highest rainfall, receiving 72.2 mm between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
The weather system also brought strong winds, with gusts reaching 76 kmph at Palam Airport.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued rain and thunderstorms across Delhi-NCR, with another spell of heavy rainfall expected on Saturday. Weather conditions are likely to improve gradually after September 5.
