Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness another spell of intense rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for several districts amid an active cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
There is an orange warning for heavy to extremely heavy rains in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for several other districts, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning expected at isolated places on August 28.
The districts likely to experience heavy rainfall include Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore.
According to the IMD, rainfall activity could increase further on August 29 and 30. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to develop along the West Bengal-north Odisha coast on August 29 under the influence of the prevailing system.
Some districts in western Odisha may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 31.
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning and follow official weather updates.
