New Delhi: Heavy rain and strong winds disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR on Monday, affecting flight operations and causing severe traffic congestion in several areas.
At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, 15 flights were diverted due to adverse weather conditions. These included three international flights. Twelve flights were diverted to Jaipur, while two landed in Chandigarh and one in Lucknow. FlightRadar24 data showed that around 262 flights were affected or delayed, with average delays of nearly 32 minutes.
Rain also triggered waterlogging and traffic jams across Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. On Sohna Road near Islampur village in Gurugram, nearly two feet of water accumulated on a service lane, causing a traffic jam stretching around 4 km.
In Delhi, heavy congestion was reported on MB Road near Sangam Vihar, with some commuters remaining stuck for nearly an hour. The traffic affected people travelling towards the airport, offices and Saket Court.
Ghaziabad also reported waterlogging near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9, where several vehicles struggled to move through the accumulated water.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions. Orange alerts were issued for Gurugram and Faridabad, with residents advised to remain cautious as further rain could cause additional waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
