Congress leader Rahul Gandhi staged a protest outside Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station on Friday over an alleged pellet-gun attack on student Sahil Lochab.
Lochab, 19, claimed he suffered multiple pellet injuries during the July 20 student protest march in Delhi. Gandhi accompanied him to the police station and demanded that an FIR be registered. He later alleged that police had received instructions from senior authorities not to register the case.
Delhi Police denied using pellet guns during the protest. The police said Lochab’s complaint had been accepted and would be forwarded to the Crime Branch, which is already investigating cases linked to the July 20 violence.
The Congress has alleged that personnel from the Rapid Action Force used pellet guns to control protesters. It has also questioned the police denial, citing injuries reported by several protesters.
The controversy has reached the Supreme Court, which has formed an expert committee to examine allegations of excessive use of force during the protest.
Rahul Gandhi has demanded a judicial inquiry and action against anyone found responsible.
