Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court’s judgment convicting him in a 2013 rape case involving a former colleague.

On August 6, the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court overturned Tejpal’s acquittal by a trial court and convicted him of rape. The High Court later sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Tejpal has now challenged both the conviction and sentence before the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Goa government has also approached the top court, seeking a harsher punishment. The state has argued that the 10-year sentence is inadequate and has sought life imprisonment.
