The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Department conducted inspections at a Zepto warehouse and three Indira Canteen food preparation units in Bengaluru on Tuesday. According to reports, officials discovered a number of food safety infractions, such as improper labeling, misbranding, and unsanitary handling and storage.
Zepto Warehouse Sealed
An FSDA team inspected a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district. Officials alleged that food was being handled and stored in unhygienic conditions. They also found issues related to labelling, misbranding and other Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requirements.
The warehouse was sealed following the inspection. Officials also issued a notice and recommended legal proceedings before the concerned adjudicating officer.
Zepto said it cooperated with the inspection and was taking steps to address the observations. The company said it remained committed to maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.
Indira Canteen Unit Also Sealed
FSDA teams inspected the main kitchens or food preparation units of Indira Canteens at Gottigere, Lingarajapuram and Singasandra.
Officials reported food safety violations at all three locations. Notices were issued to the operators, and cases were recommended for further action.
The Indira Canteen warehouse at Gottigere was sealed over alleged unhygienic food handling and storage conditions.
Food Samples Sent for Testing
Officials collected samples of pulses, turmeric powder, cooking oil, jaggery, salt, sugar and prepared food items. The samples were sent to designated laboratories to check their quality and compliance with food safety standards.
The inspections come amid a wider food safety crackdown in Bengaluru, including action against unsafe practices at hotels and restrictions on junk food sales near educational institutions.
