Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to see a spell of heavy rainfall from August 12 as a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and nearby regions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
The weather system could bring isolated heavy to very heavy rain across Odisha between August 12 and 14.
According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently present over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The system extends up to about 7.6 km above sea level and is expected to move towards the southwest with height.
The weather office said a low-pressure area may form under the influence of this circulation around August 12.
The monsoon trough is also active and extends across parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal before reaching the east-central Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha until August 18.
An orange warning has been issued for August 12 to 15, when heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations.
Residents, particularly those in vulnerable and low-lying areas, have been advised to remain alert as the weather system develops.
