Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday assigned district-wise responsibilities to members of the Council of Ministers to strengthen relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected regions of the state.
The decision followed the Chief Minister’s aerial survey of flood-hit areas, where he reviewed the extent of damage and assessed the ongoing response measures. After the survey, Majhi directed ministers to work closely with district administrations and ensure effective monitoring of rescue operations, relief distribution and rehabilitation initiatives.
As per the allocation, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo will supervise flood management and relief operations in Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has been entrusted with overseeing relief efforts in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur, three of the worst-affected districts.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has been assigned responsibility for Puri district, while Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabinarayan Naik will monitor the flood situation in Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar districts.
The state government said other ministers will also visit their respective districts as in-charge ministers to review relief measures, coordinate with local authorities and ensure timely assistance reaches affected residents.
The move is aimed at enhancing coordination between the state government and district administrations as Odisha continues to battle flood-like conditions caused by incessant rainfall and rising water levels in major rivers. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring swift relief, rehabilitation and support for all affected communities.
