Traffic on the Mumbai-bound lane of the Missing Link section of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway has resumed after a landslide early Monday. However, the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway remains closed due to ongoing restoration work.
Officials are diverting vehicles heading to Mumbai through the old Mumbai–Pune Highway (NH-48). Authorities are restoring traffic on the old highway in phases. Travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary trips and follow police instructions.
The landslide occurred near the exit of the first tunnel on the Pune-to-Mumbai side. It also damaged a retaining wall. Heavy rain caused a tree to fall on the old highway, damaging power lines. Knee-deep water was reported at several locations.
Rail services were also affected. Central Railway cancelled 16 trains and diverted several others after another landslide between Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill in Raigad district.
In Pune’s Maval taluka, one person died after a landslide struck a house. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force are searching for three missing family members.
In Sadashiv Peth, Pune, residents of a three-storey building were evacuated after the ground beside the structure collapsed. Officials will inspect the building before allowing residents to return.
