Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to experience widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several northern districts.
Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj are under orange warnings on August 24, 26 and 27, while Mayurbhanj will also face an orange alert on August 25. Heavy rainfall is expected in several other districts during this period.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations across several districts. Heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of northern and western Odisha on August 22 and 23.
The weather system is linked to an active monsoon trough and cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. The IMD warned that intense rainfall could cause waterlogging, localised flooding, traffic disruptions, reduced visibility and damage to vulnerable structures. Landslides and crop inundation are also possible in susceptible areas.
Bhubaneswar is likely to remain cloudy with chances of rain or thundershowers, while temperatures may hover around 35°C during the day and 26°C at night.
No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast from August 21 to 25.
