A 26-year-old woman, Bharati Mukhi, was killed after being hit by a speeding Aston Martin near Inorbit Mall in Hyderabad on August 16. Police have identified 21-year-old Lingamaneni Sanjush, son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP and Jana Sena Party leader Lingamaneni Ramesh, as the accused driver.
Footage from the accident’s aftermath shows Bharati lying injured on the road while her colleague cries for help. Bystanders confronted the driver and helped shift Bharati into the same car before taking her to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Bharati, reportedly from Odisha, worked as a sales executive at Lifestyle inside Inorbit Mall. She was returning from lunch with a colleague when she was struck while crossing the road.
Madhapur Police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death through a rash or negligent act. Police seized the Aston Martin and said alcohol and drug tests were negative. The accused was issued a notice instead of being arrested, citing legal safeguards applicable to offences carrying less than five years’ imprisonment.
Bharati’s aunt said she was the sole breadwinner of her family and appealed for government assistance.
