The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has alleged that its Kolkata meet-up was cancelled after the owners of the planned venue faced pressure and threats from BJP leaders.

CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka said the event at Bharat Sabha Hall in North Kolkata was called off after the venue owners reportedly withdrew permission. He also claimed that six other halls refused to host the meeting, citing pressure from the state.

Ranka said the cancellation would not stop the organisation’s activities in West Bengal. He announced plans for a larger event and said the CJP would continue its School Theek Karo campaign. The campaign focuses on highlighting problems in government-run schools.

The development comes amid a separate dispute involving a CJP volunteer, Abdul Hafiz. His father, Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, died after allegedly being attacked at their home on August 13.

The CJP has demanded the arrest of all those involved and threatened to gherao the Bankura District Magistrate’s office if its demands are not met within 10 days.

The organisation has also sought a court-monitored probe and security for Mafik’s family.
