A landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Kurla West, early Wednesday morning, killing two people and injuring two others. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the incident was reported at around 3:48 am.

Several People Feared Trapped

A large section of a hill beside the settlement collapsed onto around six to seven shanties. Several residents were inside their homes and asleep when the landslide occurred. Officials said four to six people were feared trapped under the debris.

Civic authorities and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel launched a search and rescue operation after the incident.

Victims Identified

The deceased were identified as Sahil Ansari, 28, and Mohamed Samir, 14. Rajawadi Hospital received their bodies. The two injured people were reported to be stable and recovering.

The landslide occurred as Mumbai experienced another spell of heavy rainfall. Rescue teams continued efforts to locate and assist people who may remain trapped beneath the rubble.
