Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday reviewed the Finance Department and called for better revenue collection. He also directed officials to increase capital and programme spending.
Majhi said stronger revenue collection is important for the state’s overall development. He stressed the need for greater spending on infrastructure and development projects to support Odisha’s growth.
Officials presented data on revenue receipts and expenditure. Central government grants account for 10% of Odisha’s revenue receipts. The state’s share of central taxes stands at 31%. Own tax revenue contributes 31%, while own non-tax revenue accounts for 28%.
Odisha collected ₹61,593 crore in revenue up to July this financial year. This was 7.3% higher than the same period last year. Own revenue increased by 11.9%. Own tax revenue rose 9.3%, while own non-tax revenue grew 14.8%.
Programme expenditure increased by 19.1% during the period. Capital expenditure reached ₹11,300 crore by July 2026, compared with ₹9,399 crore a year earlier. This marked a 20.2% rise.
Majhi asked departments to speed up project implementation and improve utilisation of capital funds. He said major infrastructure investment would be needed to build a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
