Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Health Department has reported 96 snakebite cases in seven flood-affected districts, with no deaths recorded so far. Officials said prompt medical response and adequate availability of anti-snake venom have helped prevent fatalities.
According to Joint Director of Public Health Dr. Basanta Pradhan, health teams remain active in Baleshwar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Puri, and Cuttack, even after floodwaters have receded. Control rooms and temporary medical camps have been set up, while sufficient stocks of ORS, anti-snake venom (ASV), and essential medicines have been deployed in coordination with the Special Relief Commissioner’s office.
The department also reported 195 diarrhoea cases, with treatment focused on preventing dehydration. Overall, 21,334 people have received medical care in the affected areas.
As part of emergency healthcare measures, 481 pregnant women were shifted to safer locations. Of them, 332 deliveries have been conducted successfully, with no maternal or newborn deaths reported.
The Health Department said it continues to closely monitor the situation and provide medical support in flood-affected regions.
